History

Armin Kunert and Bruno Goupil founded TORNATECH in 1985. TORNATECH took over the pump control division of Cusco Industries and started to get involved in the manufacturing of pump controllers and fire pump controllers built to NFPA 20 and listed with ULC. Soon, TORNATECH increased the range of voltage and HP to better suit the fire pump controllers' Canadian market.

A few years later, TORNATECH was the first Canadian company to develop a Diesel engine fire pump controller and to have it listed with ULC, FM and UL. This new addition would complete the fire pump controller line. This same year, TORNATECH developed a new line of electric fire pump controllers listed by UL and approved by FM and was then able to export controllers.

Later on, TORNATECH had again the merit of having the first transfer switches for fire pump controllers listed with ULC. Transfer switches were also added to the UL/FM fire pump controllers' line. At this time, TORNATECH was actively involved in the promotion of fire safety and codes conformity throughout Canada with consultants and authorities having jurisdiction.

TORNATECH earned a strong respect and solid reputation within the industry of fire pump installations.

TORNATECH is now opened to the world market and regularly sells to Europe, Middle East, Asia and South America. Language barrier is not a problem at TORNATECH ; several of our employees speak more than one language. In fact, we are able to communicate with most of our customers in their own language, if required.

To respond to the NFPA 20 - 1999 latest requirements, in 2001, TORNATECH launched its new FPx and FSx line of controller including the PRS99 module on the market. At this stage, the electric fire pump controllers included ammeters, voltmeters, pressure sensing device and printer.

In 2003, TORNATECH introduced two new lines of product Series CSx (ULC) and Series CPx (cULus-FM) offering lower cost electric fire pump controllers meeting all the requirements of NFPA 20. At the same time, a new Diesel engine fire pump controller was also introduced for the same purpose. These introductions have allowed TORNATECH to remain competitive on the market.

In the sprng of 2004, after 19 years of hard work and dedication to the Fire Pump Controller Market, Armin Kunert retires and Bruno Goupil becomes the sole owner of Tornatech
